The Cave Singers were a late addition to the Musicfest lineup. They’ve been on my radar for awhile to see live. MFNW delivers. Again.
The Cave Singers are a Seattle WA three piece. Their myspace currently says Regain and Rejoice It! I would assume the band isn’t shrinking from religious imagery with a video like this for their song “Dancing On Our Graves”.
To be honest I don’t know what the hell to call this sound. Not like that shit is important. Sounds almost like fall from grace music. I’m sticking with that. Or bootlegger music? Shit. Maybe that’s better. Whatever. Definitely an acquired taste for some. Music with this kind of passion will have to slay live. Right? Can I get a …. hell yeah?
Chris confirms it. Rejoice. The Cave Singers destroy it live. What a gift! Good news! I’m watching the last song of the set. What a blessing it is to be here…
Alright. I’ll quit fucking around.
Pete Quirk (vocal) is your left. He’s sweat through his shirt and is using it to clear his face. He’s got a maraca. Derek Fudesco is your right. He’s sitting on a stool with guitar. Marty Lund is percussion. “At The Cut”. When the guitar lick kicks in over the rhythm and Pete starts stomping and shaking before delivering the opening vocal? I knew it was going to be amazing then. Quirk’s voice is so perfect for this type of music. Seriously. With Fudesco’s head down driving rhythm. It was seriously like a revival. I was up top the stairs and could look down and see people pogoing. Even off to the side. I mean c’mon. This wasn’t a young ass crowd, either. This is the warmup for The Tallest Man ( And Girl Magnet) On Earth.
When the song builds to the feverish pitch, Quirk goes off mic and just starts screaming the final vocals into the crowd. After a song of screaming, playing maraca, and just being totally killing it. He turns as the song ends and the crowd started demanding an encore. They should have got it. Derek got up and pumped his fists as cooly as he could. Like a celebrating athlete. Punk rock, bitches!
Really, really like this band. Hope they come back soon.
