I’ve spent alot of this week thinking about a friend of mine.
We went to some shows together. I kept them dark. YOTS is often trash, a kind I relish and treasure, but associating him with this would be un-cool. And he was cool.
But the lessons are important.
And the inflection points.
In life we all travel multiple story arcs. Professional. Relationships. Family. Love. Music.
Music.
Music, of course, is different. Because of what it is. It weaves in and out of everything. Provides a soundtrack. Becomes a fabric. As anyone with any kind of appreciation for the art form knows intuitively…it moves you around emotionally and in memory. Take you places. Remind you of events, places, eras, and people. The fact that it can make you uncontrolled in your own head is the blessing and curse.
That’s all obvious.
The deeper meaning eludes me. And I’m not going to chase it.
What I am going to chase is…everytime I hear John Legend or Arctic Monkeys, I’ll think about him and those days. And those two nights out at a show. The experience will always trump the material. I don’t have a t-shirt from those shows. Shows create their own touchstones.
So even if the night out isn’t deep. Or crazy significant at the time. One day it may be.
Safe travels, friend.
